Soon after the war started, the three sister towns that form the community of Le Tréport requisitioned Le Golf Hôtel and converted it into a hospital for French wounded soldiers.
The English Hospital
However, it was not long before the hospital was unable to cope with the increasing numbers that were arriving. It was decided to expand the hospital into the area around Le Golf Hotel. Two Canadian hospital units arrived to assist the French and create an Anglo-Canadian hospital.
Arrival by train
The wounded arrived by train and were transferred to the hospital by ambulances.
Arrival at the Anglo-Canadian Hospital
As the war seemed to get closer, the ambulances carried the Red Cross on both sides and the tops of the vehicles. Initially, the wounded were accommodated in tents.
Flower Beds around the Wards
The English Hospital was noticeably British with flower beds and an influence within Le Tréport as locals were invited to come and have a cup of tea.
Inside the wooden buildings
During the four years of operation, English became more established especially as English courses were started by the Anglo French School of Language in town. Thus, people could talk to the wounded and others who were able to visit the town.
